The Role of the Historic Preservation Commission

The board also makes recommendations to the Mayor, Planning Commission, Board of Supervisors, and other City agencies concerning amendments to the historic preservation code.

What to expect at a Historic Preservation Hearing
At either a Regular Hearing (also known as a "Meeting") or a Special Hearing, only matters posted on the agenda can be heard. The procedure for public hearings is as follows:
- A thorough description of the item by the Director or a member of the staff.
- A presentation of the proposal, by the project sponsor(s)'s team.
- Public testimony regarding the proposal.
- After all of the testimony is submitted, the Commission will consider the evidence, deliberate, and either make a decision, take the matter under advisement, or continue the matter in order for additional information to be presented.
