ABOUT

Civic Center is notable for its government and cultural institutions, including Civic Center Plaza and United Nations Plaza, the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium, the Asian Art Museum, and the War Memorial Veterans Building. In 1945, the United Nations Charter was signed on the stage of the Herbst Theatre(housed in the Veteran’s Building), which led to the creation of the United Nations. The Treaty of San Francisco was also signed there in 1951. The San Francisco Civic Center was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1987 and listed in the National Register of Historic Places on October 10, 1978.
