Housing Resources

The Housing Resource guide is for individuals experiencing homelessness or housing insecurity. Use this list to find Homeless Services, Rental Services & Eviction Assistance, Tenant Rights, and Affordable Housing in San Francisco. This list was created in partnership with community organizations and the Mayor’s Office of Housing and Community Development.

Homeless Services & Resources

Homeless Shelters
Find a shelter for you or your family’s needs with this list. You can filter by age, household size and more.

Coordinated Entry, Department of Homelessness & Supportive Housing
If you are at risk of or currently experiencing homelessness, contact a Coordinated Entry Access Point to get assistance. Access Point staff provide problem solving support and assess your needs.

Shelter Client Advocacy
For assistance with a Denial of Service (DOS) or an issue at a City-funded homeless shelter or transitional housing site, contact the Eviction Defense Collaborative at (415) 669-0284 or email sca@evictiondefense.org.

The SF Service Guide is a central website to get connected to food, health, showers and other services shelters. Find long-term housing, rental assistance, financial assistance, jobs, LGBTQ+ and/or Domestic Violence Survivor resources and more.

Rental Assistance, Eviction & General Resources

SF Emergency Rental Assistance Program
Also known as SF ERAP, this program aids eligible San Francisco residents who have past-due rent or need help paying the costs of moving into a new unit they have already identified and plan to lease. Applicants are eligible for assistance one time per calendar year.

Eviction Defense Collaborative
If you have received eviction papers from the court, immediately contact the legal assistance line at (415) 659-9184 or email at legal@evictiondefense.org. Find support with eviction assistance, rental assistance, shelter client advocacy and tenant’s right to counsel.

Mayor’s Office of Housing and Community Development Housing Resource Guide
Use this comprehensive guide to find housing and homelessness services you need. The guide is organized by resources specific to Veterans, Families, the Elderly, Youth, Individuals with Disabilities, HIV/AIDS, Domestic Violence Survivors and more.

Rent Relief and Eviction Prevention
The San Francisco Anti Displacement Coalition is a group of tenant organizations and allies who organize against evictions and illegal rent increases.

Bay Area Legal Aid provides four videos in 3 languages with need-to-know information for tenants including how to challenge your eviction, your basic rights, housing discrimination and housing protections.

Legal Services
Call Bay Area Legal Aid at 1-800-551-554 a free legal hotline available to qualified low-income residents living in the Bay Area. The Legal Advice Line provides counsel and advice in all languages on a range of civil legal issues.

The SF Tenants Union offers counseling, legal advice and tenants’ rights resources to empower tenants to learn and assert their rights under local, state, and federal law.
