Ella Hill Hutch Community Center

The Ella Hill Hutch Community Center has served San Francisco's Fillmore community for more than 30 years, providing youth programs, community services, and healthy food assistance. As the center begins its next chapter under SF Recreation & Parks, we're seeking community input to help shape its future programs and services.

We need your voice!  The Mayor’s Office of Community Affairs and the District 5 Supervisor are seeking your input to help shape the future of Ella Hill Hutch Community Center's future programming, services, and operator selection with this 5 minute survey – open until August 1, 2026.

Located at 1050 McAllister Street in San Francisco's Western Addition/Fillmore district, the Ella Hill Hutch Community Center has been a cornerstone of the community since June 1981. Named in honor of civil rights leader Ella Hill Hutch by Mayor Dianne Feinstein,1 the center has served generations of residents as a community hub offering through youth services, after-school and summer programming, and healthy food assistance for over 30 years.

The center is owned by the City of San Francisco and will be operated by SF Recreation & Parks during the summer and fall of 2026, ensuring continued access for the Fillmore community. As the center prepares for its next chapter, the City will release a Request for Proposals by the end of the year to determine how programs and services will be delivered longer-term. In the meantime, we want to hear your ideas about what programs and activities should be offered at the center so that future services reflect the community’s priorities. Fill out this 5 minute survey!

Will the City be providing services at Ella Hill Hutch permanently?

No. SF Rec & Park has been asked to provide temporary services at Ella Hill Hutch for summer 2026 and the 2026–27 school year, bridging the gap until longer-term providers are selected through a competitive process.

What will be the process for identifying longer-term service providers at Ella Hill Hutch?

The City will run a community-informed, competitive process to identify provider(s) to operate services and programming out of Ella Hill Hutch. Over the next two months, the City will be soliciting input from members of the Fillmore / Western Addition community to understand what types of services they would prioritize at Ella Hill Hutch. We will use that information to launch a formal Request for Proposal (RFP) in Fall 2026 for providers to begin delivering services out of Ella Hill Hutch beginning Summer 2027.

How can the community share their perspectives on the future of Ella Hill Hutch?

The City has launched a survey to secure input from the community that will be used to shape the future of Ella Hill Hutch. We will also be holding several public forums to gather community input. Our first Ella Hill Hutch Community Engagement event was held on-site on Monday, June 22nd from 5-6:30 pm. We are finalizing two additional dates in July and August. We will also be engaging community members through existing forums, including the Fillmore Community Action Plan and through outreach to key community-based organizations and partners in the Fillmore / Western Addition neighborhood.

How will the community be involved in the selection of providers at Ella Hill Hutch?

Ella Hill Hutch is a city-owned building. As such, the City will need to undergo an open, competitive process that will evaluate the applications of those who choose to apply to the Request for Proposal and meet the City’s requirements and expectations for its contractors. The City will incorporate feedback from the community around the types of characteristics desired of service providers into the scoring criteria for the RFP.
