2022-008664DES: ST. JAMES PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, 240 LELAND AVENUE – Assessor’s Parcel Block No. 6246, Lot No. 012 (District 10). Consideration to Recommend to the Board of Supervisors Landmark Designation of St. James Presbyterian Church as an individual Article 10 Landmark pursuant to Section 1004.2 of the Planning Code. Initiation of landmark designation of St. James Presbyterian Church was introduced by Supervisor Walton and adopted by the Board of Supervisors on July 19, 2022 (See BoS File No. 220716). St. James Presbyterian Church was constructed in 1922 based on design by renowned architect Julia Morgan. St. James, organized by Presbytery of San Francisco as its first Filipino ministry in late 1980s, was originally established in 1908 and is one of the oldest religious congregations in Visitacion Valley. The church is representative of broad patterns of San Francisco history and is historically significant for its association with early development of the neighborhood. St. James Presbyterian Church is also architecturally significant as an example of the work of architect of merit, Julia Morgan. The subject property is in RH-2 (Residential-House, Two Family) Zoning District and 40-X Height and Bulk District.
