Retained Elements Special Topic Design Guidelines

As a companion document to the Urban Design Guidelines, this set of guidelines concentrates on the study and exploration of combining elements of existing structures with new development, and elaborates on the issue of façade retention – often mischaracterized as a form of historic preservation. These guidelines also offer a way to achieve sustainability objectives, resulting in meaningful and cohesive architecture that supports the uses needed for the City, while addressing neighborhood character.
